The NTSB interviewed the engineer and two assistant conductors on Friday following Tuesday's Amtrak 188 derailment in Philadelphia. At a 5:30 press conference, National Transportation Safety Board member Robert Sumwalt relayed what those Amtrak crew members told investigators. The engineer, Brandon Bostian, said that before the wreck he did not feel fatigued or ill before the wreck and the train did not have any operational problems. Earlier today an 8th fatality was discovered in the wreckage of the Amtrak 188 train derailment in Port Richmond section of Philadelphia. 43 passengers remain in the hospital following Tuesday night's crash, 8 are in critical condition. 238 passengers and 5 crew were aboard the train when it derailed along a curve in the Frankford Junction section of track. The NTSB confirmed this afternoon that preliminary data shows that Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 was traveling 106 mph before it derailed in the Port Richmond neighborhood on Tuesday night around 9:30 p.m. The train veered off the tracks in an area known as Frankford Junction just as the the rails turn north near the 2000 block of Wheatsheaf Lane. Emergency crews are on the scene after a passenger train derailed Tuesday evening in the Philadelphia's Port Richmond section. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 2000 block of Wheatsheaf Lane near Frankford Ave. The Amtrak Northeast Regional train #188 was making its way from Washington, DC, to New York City. Four Philadelphia Police officers from the 35th District were injured in a hit-and-run after being struck following a struggle with the driver in the city's Olney section on Tuesday afternoon. Fox has announced that it will be canceling American Idol after next year's 15th season. Ryan Seacrest will return as the host of the show he's led since its debut in 2002. Current judges, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban, will also be returning for the final season. Ratings have dwindled in recent years for the groundbreaking singing competition. A female student from the School of the Future was hospitalized after someone threw a brick through a window of a school bus this afternoon in West Philadelphia. It happened around 4:30 pm at N. 47th and Aspen Streets. The brick was thrown through a window in the middle of the bus on the driver's side. British crooner Sam Smith will have to undergo vocal cord surgery after suffering a hemmorrhage while on tour in Australia last week. It happened during a show in Sydney on April 28th.
