The Firefly Music Festival has returned to the Woodlands at Dover Downs for its 5th straight year with 90,000 people expected to attend. Philadelphia became the first major U.S. city to pass a tax on soda and other sugary drinks when City Council voted 13-4 in favor this afternoon. Mayor Jim Kenney had proposed a 3 cents/ounce tax on sugary drinks that would primarily pay for universal Pre-K, community schools, and recreation centers. An explosion rocked South Philadelphia this afternoon leaving one injured. It happened around 3:15 p.m. at Veolia North America's Schuylkill Station steam facility at 26th and Christian Streets in Gray's Ferry. A boiler exploded at the steam and electricity plant. All employees were able to evacuate safely. Philadelphia Fire responded quickly and initially treated it as a hazardous materials incident. A recent graduate from West Catholic Preparatory High School in Philadelphia is among the fatal victims of Sunday's massacre in Orlando. 18-year-old Akyra Murray of West Philadelphia had travelled to Florida with her family following graduation last week. She went to Pulse Nightclub with her cousin and a friend on Saturday night. Murray was one of the 49 killed by Omar Mateen when he opened fire inside the club early Sunday morning. 50 people have been killed and 53 wounded in a mass shooting inside a gay nightclub in Florida early Sunday morning. It happened at 2 a.m. at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. The gunman was carrying an assault rifle and a handgun. He has been identified as 29-year-old U.S.-born citizen Omar Mateen who was living in St Lucie County, FL. Mateen took hostages inside the club. At around 5 a.m., SWAT entered the club and killed Mateen in a firefight.
