The Quadrantids meteor shower, which can potentially be the best natural lightshow of the year, will be visible Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Viewing conditions will be ideal around Philadelphia with clear skies but it will be quite frigid with temperatures only about 20 degrees.

The peak is predicted to be somewhere around 2:30 to 3 a.m., though Quadrantids meteors are "notoriously unpredictable" in terms of intensity. NASA says it will be a "brief, beautiful"... Read More

PA Texting Law to Overshadow Philadelphia Cellphone Ban

  by: iradioal - Philadelphia, PA
started: 12/26/11 5:22 pm | updated: 12/26/11 5:22 pm

The Pennsylvania state's new texting while driving ban, effective March 8, 2012, will effectively wipe out the 2 year old Philadelphia city ordinance banning total cell phone use. The state law only bans texting but allows for other use of the devices such as dialing, GPS, music, etc. You can hold and manipulate the device any way use wish, just not for texting. Philadelphia's law banned any use of a phone including phone calls but the state law will trump any local ordinances.

Kim Jong Il, the 69 year old dictator of Communist North Korea, died on Saturday. The state run network said Kim died of "overwork" while "dedicating his life to the people." And the official news agency said Kim suffered "great mental and physical strain" while on a train. There was no independent confirmation of the circumstances reported by the government, which routinely touted the seemingly mythic achievements of the "Dear Leader" during his lifetime. They did say, He suffered a heart... Read More

It opened December 19th, 1991. The 21.5 mile highway connecting the Turnpike at Plymouth Meeting to 95 near Chester, took many more years to complete though. They idea for the road dates back to the late 20's and 30's. Plans for multiple routes, each with a different 'color code' were drawn up, with the 'blue' plan being the only one selected. The first ground was broken in 1969, but construction was halted and restarted many times through lawsuits and court actions. The western suburbs were in... Read More

The cause of Amy Winehouse's sudden death earlier this summer has now been released. Coroner Suzanne Greenaway concluded it was "death by misadventure," saying the singer died of accidental alcohol poisoning. Blood and urine samples indicated Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol" prior to her death. The level of alcohol in her blood... Read More
