A mother of three from Paulsboro, NJ, is filing suit against Conrail, Norfolk Southern Railway Company and CSX Transportation. She says she is experiencing breathing problems because of the November 30th chemical spill that released vinyl chloride into the air and necessitated residential evacuations that lasted for a week. A large water main break shut down parts of the Center City shopping district late this afternoon. The Philadelphia Water Department is working on fixing that 12 inch main. It happened around 4 p.m. on the 1600 block of Walnut Street, PWD shut it down at 6 p.m. Around 25 properties have been affected including some businesses. The area surrounding the break has been closed to traffic. Walnut Street is closed from 15th to 17th and 16th Street is closed between Chancellor and Locust Streets.... Read More |

The Phillies continued to check off their Christmas needs list this December. Fresh off the trade for OF Ben Revere the Phillies have acquired Michael Young from the Texas Rangers for right-handed reliever Josh Lindblom and a Minor League pitcher, Lisalverto Bonilla.

Philadelphia can soon hope to see a Bike Share program like the successful programs in Washington, DC, Boston, and Minneapolis. The Nutter Administration plans to ask the Philadelphia City Council for $3 million to get a program with 650 bikes on the streets by early 2014. An additional 550 bikes would be added in 2015.

A man from Glenside in Montgomery County is now under arrest for impersonating a Philadelphia Police officer on Wednesday night. 30-year-old Michael Green is accused of stopping another car along the 4300 block of McMenamy Street in the Holmesburg section with another section. Both men were armed and pulled the guns on the driver and two passengers, forcing them into the back seat. They were able to escape, but one of them suffered a broken arm. Paulsboro, NJ residents have been told they can start to return home today, Friday, a week since they were evacuated following last Friday's early morning freight train derailment and vinyl chloride leak over the Mantua Creek. The decision was made after air monitors showed the air clear of Vinyl chloride on Thursday and Friday. The last of the chemical was pumped from the ruptured rail car on Wednesday evening. Jeb Bush has been named the new Chairman of the National Constitution Center. The former Governor of Florida is following in the footsteps of his father George H.W.
