Stevie Wonder popped up in Center City this afternoon for a free concert at Dillworth Park next to City Hall to promote a just announced fall extension to his "Songs in the Key of Life" tour. Around a 1,000 people packed the western apron of City Hall around 3pm to catch the living R&B legend perform a few songs. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter held a press conference this afternoon to announce more plans surrounding the Papal visit next month. Last week they revealed a 'traffic box' where vehicle traffic will be allowed to leave but not enter. This is to "protect millions of people walking on narrow city streets and sidewalks." Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane publicly addressed the criminal charges brought against her for the first time on Wednesday at a press conference. She is accused of leaking grand jury information to a Philadelphia newspaper and lying to another grand jury investigating the leak. Each August as the Earth's annual orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle/109P, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids. Named because they seem to radiate from the constellation Perseus, this meteor shower will peak tonight Wednesday August 12th. It is not uncommon to see up to 100 meteors an hour with the Perseids.

A man was struck and killed by a tour bus this morning in Center City right in front of police headquarters. It happened at 9:47 a.m. at the intersection of North Franklin and Race streets. The 46-year-old pedestrian was crossing the street when the white tour bus turned the corner and hit the man. The bus dragged him for 50 feet and did not stop. A woman is dead and a child and another woman are injured after a shooting in Wilmington, DE on Monday afternoon. It happened just before 2 p.m. on the 400 block of W. 7th Street. A 25-year-old woman was found with gunshot wounds to her upper torso. She died at the scene. A 4-year-old child was taken to the hospital by officers with a gunshot to the legs. SEPTA has announced another lottery for transit passes for the weekend of the Papal Visit in September. This lottery will be for Special 3 Day passes on the Norristown High Speed Line and Routes 101 and 102 trolley lines. The $10 pass will be good for Saturday – Monday September 26-28th.
