Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House to get $45 million Renovation by Eric Blumenfeld/Live Nation

Philadelphia's historic Metropolitan Opera House on North Broad Street is officially set to be restored and renovated as a live music venue. Developer Eric Blumenfeld, who is bringing the nearby Divine Lorraine Hotel back to life, has partnered with concert promoter Live Nation to refurbish the block-long building at Broad and Poplar for $45 million. Construction is slated to start in June and it should be ready to open by the end of 2018.

Thousands came out on a rainy Friday morning to pay their respects to fallen Delaware State Trooper Cpl. Stephen Ballard. Friends, family, and law enforcement officers from across the country attended services at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, DE. A memorial service will be held for Cpl. Stephen Ballard of the Delaware State Troopers who was shot and killed in the line of duty last week. It will take place at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, DE. Four female students have been arrested and eight teachers were injured following a fight at Cheltenham High School in Montgomery County yesterday. The incident was captured on cell phone video. 18-year-old Amber Nicole Lewis, a senior, was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and conspiracy. The other three students are minors. No charges will be brought against an off-duty Philadelphia police officer who shot her husband in the driveway of their Bucks County home in April. The shooting happened on April 18th at their Northampton Township home during an altercation. It has been ruled self defense. A teacher was struck and injured during a fight caught on video in Cheltenham High School this morning. The fight began between two students at 7:30 a.m. Two more students then joined the fight. That's when staff members stepped in. The teacher fell and was injured while trying to hold back a student. All four students were girls. A large fire that damaged and destroyed a row of town homes in Philadelphia's Point Breeze neighborhood early Monday morning has been ruled an arson. Two people have been arrested so far after a large group of anarchist protesters went on a vandalism rampage in Olde Kensington on Monday night. 45-year-old Geoffrey Suchocki of Doylestown and 28-year-old Patricia Monahan of Philadelphia were charged with causing and risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, and related offenses.
