Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution during the stated meeting on Thursday, 5/21, asking the Kenney Administration to hold off on closing the Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy until City Council has had a chance to complete its budget process. In Mayor Kenney's revised budget proposal delivered on May 1, the OACCE's budget is slashed to $0 and the office itself is slated to be eliminated. Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, Camden County, New Jersey, was closed on Thursday, 5/21, by health officials after it had defied state emergency orders and opened its doors for business this week. The New Jersey Department of Health issued the order after the gym had reopened to members on Monday, 5/18, through Wednesday, 5/20. Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, Camden County, New Jersey, opened up for a second day against Governor Phil Murphy's emergency closure orders. A crowd of people gathered again outside the gym to show support for the owners' decision. Bellmawr police delivered a second citation to the business for violating the shutdown order. Philadelphia Police are searching for a man wanted for spray painting racist graffiti on several Center City buildings early Sunday morning, 5/17. Police were called to the report of vandalism around 1:20 a.m. at the Coventry Deli on the 2000 block of Market Street. When they arrived they found two swastikas spray painted on the outside of the building. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said on Tuesday, 5/19, that he will sign a bill that would allow certain restaurants and bars to serve alcoholic drinks to go. The bill (HB 327 PN 3678) passed overwhelmingly in both the PA House (193-9) and Senate (48-0). Establishments must have a valid restaurant or hotel liquor license and lost more than 25% of their average monthly total sales. A man suspected of DUI is being charged with murder after a crash earlier this week killed a man and an unborn child.
