Philadelphia firefighters have been fighting a blaze at the popular late night pizza shop Lorenzo's on South Street since this morning. Emergency crews were called at 10:26 a.m. to 305 South Street. Flames were already making their way through the building's first floor pizza store and second and third floor apartments.
A firefighter was treated and released at Hahnemann Hospital after injuring he knee.

After last year's 'year off' Dave Matthews Band came back to an old haunting grounds and were in great spirits Tuesday night at Camden, NJ's Susquehanna Bank Center. DMB has been playing in this building for over 15 years and it showed they feel at home. Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge M. Teresa Sarmina granted conditional approval to a plan that would place Monsignor William Lynn on house arrest pending sentencing August 13th. He was found guilty of one count of child endangerment. He will remain in prison until July 5th, though, so that his lawyers can answer to what might happen if he were to flea. The Supreme Court ruled this morning that it is unconstitutional to sentence juveniles to life in prison without a chance of parole. The high court split 5-4 in it's decision that such life sentences for minors violate the Eighth Amendment's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. The decision takes into account scientific brain studies that say juveniles are more likely to commit crimes without thinking of the consequences, but are also more likely to respond to rehabilitation. The Phillies are planning to activate Chase Utley for Wednesday's game vs. the Pirates. Utley's been playing official minor league rehab games for the Clearwater Threshers in Florida. He will probably play one more up here, most likely for AAA Lehigh Valley on Tuesday. He started those games hitting as a DH before eventually taking the field at 2B. The Boil Water Alert for residents of Camden living west of the Cooper River serviced by United Water that has been in effect since Thursday has been lifted. The mandatory non-essential water use restriction has also been lifted.
Both alerts were put into place on Thursday after water levels and pressure reached critically low levels and quality was unsafe for consumption.

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 this afternoon with a pinch-hit walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 9th by Jim Thome. He came off the bench to pinch hit for Jonathan Papelbon, who blew the save with a two run lead in the top of the ninth. Thome has talked about how difficult pinch hitting is, without the regular at bats, but last week's American league road trip helped get him back in stride as the DH. Two finalists have been announced for the Philadelphia School District superintendent position. About 100 candidates either applied or were nominated for the position, 4 of which were from Philadelphia. The search committee narrowed that pool down to the final two candidates who will officially be presented to the public next week.

Last night's thunderstorms and heavy rains delayed the start of the Phillies' interleague series opener with the Tampa Bay Rays. After about an hour initial delay ground crew pulled the tarp and the teams and crowd started to make their way back into the stadium anticipating an 8:45 start. However, when they were just about ready the rains picked up again and the tarp came back out.
The game was finally called for good at 9:53 pm.
