Philadelphia and South Jersey Under Hurricane Warnings

The entire Philadelphia area, Delaware, and South Jersey is under Hurricane or Tropical Storm Warnings. Hurricane Irene is on course to reach our area Saturday night into Sunday with the eye going right up along the coast. The warnings mean that all areas will experience powerful winds up to hurricane forces 74+, heavy rains 4-10 inches, widespread flooding, and tidal flooding and storm surge near the coastal areas. Phillies Game Saturday Night Postponed; Day Game Still On

Sunday's Phillies game had been moved to Saturday afternoon due to the threat of Hurricane Irene. It was to be played as Game 1 of a Day-Night double header. Now it will be the only game tomorrow.

Saturday's orginally scheduled night game has been postponed to Sept 15th, time yet to be determined, because of the increasing threat of weather tomorrow night.

Hurricane Irene is expected to hit South Jersey sometime starting late Saturday Evening into Sunday. With this powerful storm likely to bring powerful winds, flooding rain, severe beach erosion, surging tides, and crippling power outages, NJ Gov. Christie has ordered all residents and visitors to evacuate Cape May County and costal areas of Atlantic and Ocean Counties.

The Phillies game on Sunday, August 28 against the Florida Marlins has been moved up due to the threat of severe weather from Hurricane Irene. The game will be played as part of a day/night doubleheader on Saturday, August 27 at 1:05 p.m.

Joey Vento, Owner of Geno's Steaks, Dies of Heart Attack

Joey Vento, the colorful and sometimes controversial owner of the famous cheesesteak shop Geno's Steak at the equally famous corner of 9th and Passyunk in South Philly, has passed away tonight of a massive heart attack. He was 71.

Former Phillie ('03-'05) Jim Thome, 40, now playing for the Minnesota Twins, became only the 8th player to have hit 600 home runs for their career. That came tonight after hitting a 3 run shot to left field off Daniel Schiereth in the 7th inning at Comerica Park in Detroit. Despite giving the Twins the 9-5 lead, Tigers fans cheered him as he rounded the bases on this monumental occasion. Teen Curfew Begins in Philadelphia and will be Enforced

Beginning tonight at 9 pm the extended earlier curfew for teens 18 and under took effect in Center City and University City. Additional police patrol on foot, bike, and mount will be on patrol to enforce and pick up violators.

Every August as the Earth's orbit takes it through the remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle, we are treated to a dramatic show of meteors streaking through the sky called the Perseids.
