Lyrid Meteor Showers in Philadelphia Skies Tonight 4/22-23/15 #LyridMeteorShower Video

The annual Lyrid meteor shower is expected to peak overnight tonight with the best viewing just before dawn on Thursday. The skies should be clearing as the night goes on and the moon should have set by midnight, though it will be getting chilly overnight with temperatures dipping into the 40's.

The Lyrid meteor occurs every mid-April as Earth passes through a stream of dust left over from the comet Thatcher. Normally you can see 10-20 meteors/hour, but sometimes burst up to 100.... Read More

The Philadelphia Folksong Society has released the initial lineup for this year's 54th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival. As always, the fest will be held on the Old Pool Farm, in Upper Salford Township near Schwenksville, PA, on August 13-16. This year is the 50th anniversary of that infamous Thanksgiving day incident that inspired folk legend Arlo Guthrie's “Alice's Restaurant Massacree”. The building that housed the historic Philadelphia International Records and Sigma Sound Studios will meet its fate on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. as the wrecking ball makes way for a planned 47-story hotel and luxury apartment building. The building was owned by famed "Philadelphia Sound" music producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. It was sold to Dranoff Properties last year. The offices were damaged by fire in 2010....
