It's been 50 years since Dylan went electric at the Newport Folk Festival, and his 1964 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster travelled to Rhode Island over the weekend to be part of the festivities. On July 25th, 1965 Bob Dylan plugged in the electric guitar, backed by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and ripped into "Maggie's Farm," "Like A Rolling Stone," "Phantom Engineer." The accompanying video is minimalist, featuring only a wireframe boombox and lyrics for the chorus. Others have also pointed out there's a Blur-esque "Woo hoo!" that starts the hook. Philadelphia's own Kurt Vile has released the video for the first track off his upcoming album b'lieve i'm goin down called "Pretty Pimpin." The video itself was filmed in California and plays like a visual round as Vile's character starts to double and triple as the song evolves. Musically, "Pimpin'" has more of a driving groove that rolls along through track than his last album which was more atmospheric. The lyrics paint a surreal picture of a person in an existential identity... Read More
