Philies Reach Deal With Galvis, Sixers Vs. Bucks (Embiid Vs. Antetokounmpo), Villanova Back To No. 1

The Phillies have now announced they have agreed on a one-year renewal contract for shortstop Freddy Galvis this past Friday and avoided arbitration. The one-year deal is supposedly worth $4.35 million. Galvis debuted back for the Phillies in April of 2012. In the 2016 season Galvis hit a .241 with 26 doubles, 3 triples, 20 home runs and 67 RBIs. Galvis was also ranked third among major league shortstops (according to FanGraphs). Also resigned was Right Handed Pitcher Jeanmar Gomez. Read More

The Philadelphia Union has signed left-back Giliano Wijnaldum for their 2017 season. Wijnaldum has been playing in the second tier soccer club Bochum in Germany. Wednesday night Villanova lost to Butler 58-66 making this the first loss all season and ending a 20-game win streak for the Wildcats. With No. 18 Butler beating No. 1 Villanova it extends a 12 home game winning streak and it is the second time in school history the team has beaten a top ranked team. The Sixers were able to seal a 93-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night after Robert Covington made a fall away shot off of an inbound pass with only 0.2 seconds on the clock. The Sixers needed the miracle shot by Covington after they blew a 24-point lead over the Timberwolves and were looking at heading into overtime. Penn State lost to USC in the Rose Bowl on Monday 49-52. USC's Matt Boermeester kicked a field goal as the time expired to seal the victory for the Trojans. USC was able to come off of a 14 point deficient in the fourth quarter. Along with Chip Kelly they are firing the 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. The Philadelphia Union have now announced they have re-signed former United States International Forward Charlie Davies. Davies who was picked up by New England before the trade deadline, had been out of a contract. Davies had one assist last season in his eight appearances for the Union.
