Fourteen of 17 Philadelphia City Council members wrote a letter to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney saying that they 'cannot accept the proposed $14 million increase to the police budget for Fiscal Year 2021.' Bucks County health officials have traced 11 of 33 new coronavirus cases reported on Saturday, 6/6, to the Jersey Shore. Contact tracing has determined that those 11 individuals had contact with a New Jersey resident who had attended multiple gatherings at New Jersey beach houses over the past two weeks. A mural depicting former Philadelphia Mayor and Police Commissioner Frank Rizzo was painted over this morning in South Philadelphia. The prominent mural stood at 9th and Montrose Streets near the Italian Market for nearly 25 years. A statue of Rizzo was removed by the city last week. It had stood outside the Municipal Services Building across from City Hall since 1999. Both the mural and the statue have been targets of repeated vandalism. The Philadelphia District Attorney Office has brought charges against a Philadelphia police officer after video showed him striking a protestor near the head with a baton. Staff Inspector Joseph Bologna is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and other related charges of 21-year-old Temple University student Evan Gorski. Officials announced Wednesday, 6/3, that the Frank Rizzo mural on 9th Street in South Philadelphia at the Italian Market will be replaced with a new mural. The current one was defaced with paint sometime Wednesday morning. The former mayor and police commissioner's statue was removed from Center City early Wednesday morning.
