A Philadelphia Parking Authority officer is losing his job for going on a verbal anti-gay tirade this week. The PPA officer, Joseph DeJohn had parked his vehicle in a no parking zone at 6th and Carpenter Streets in Queen Village. When he noticed two men taking a photograph of the PPA vehicle, DeJohn lashed out, calling them faggots and suggested they take pictures of themselves performing sex acts on each other. Five Phillies were named All Stars, but it appears Polanco and Victorino will pass and use the time to recover from injuries. House Majority Leader Mike Turzai hopes to proclaim The Liquor Control Board is dead.
Turzai is ready to unveil a bill to replace the state liquor system, which has been in place since the 1930's, with private enterprise.
The plan is drawing criticism from Democrats and unionists who say the current system works and provides a steady stream of state revenue.

The case captivated an audience for years. In the trial of Casey Anthony, the 25 year old single mom, charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee, the jury found Anthony not guilty of the most serious charges.

The Barnes Museum on Latch's Lane in Merion hosted its final visitors last weekend. For the first time since 1922, the galleries of the Barnes Foundation will no longer be open to the public. For years, the Barnes Museum, on 12 acres in Lower Merion Township has been the center of debate. Dog owners in Delaware County are being watched. Get caught without the $6 dog license and you could get fined $300.
State dog wardens are walking neighborhood streets, visiting parks and trails, peering over backyard fences and generally searching out canine companions without a current license.
Officials estimate there are 141,000 dogs living in Delaware County, yet less than 6,000 are licensed.

At a press briefing Wednesday, Philadelphia School District Chief Financial Officer Michael Masch said that the school system must plan on an additional $35 million in cuts.
The district was hoping for $57 million in reimbursements for charter school costs, but the state has refused them. Nine new warning labels featuring graphic images that convey the dangers of smoking will be required by the Food and Drug Administration to be on U.S. cigarette packs by 2012. The new warnings will occupy the top half the space on both sides of the pack. The warnings feature pictures of rotting teeth, diseased lungs and a corpse of a smoker.
