The Philadelphia 76ers new owner, Adam Aron is finding productive ways to stay busy while the NBA season is on hold. Last week he stayed up all night bidding on Julius Erving's memorabilia being auctioned on ebay. To raise some money, Dr. J posted some of his stuff on ebay and Aron decided to try to keep the memorobilia in Philly.

Members of a breakaway Amish sect have been arrested in association with hate crimes against the Amish community. In September and October the breakaway group forcefully cut the beards and hair of Amish men and women. Cutting the hair is a highly offensive act to the Amish, who believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards and stop shaving once they marry.

On Tuesday, Philadelphia will light the Christmas Tree on Rittenhouse Square. The Tree Lighting Ceremony features holiday entertainment, character visits, complimentary roasted chestnuts, Santa Claus and plenty of holiday surprises. The Christmas Tree itself is more than 30 feet tall. The Salvation Army will be collecting unwrappped toys for needy children and TD Bank will be handing out free elf hats. The tree lighting ceremony starts at 5pm Tuesday on Rittenhouse Square.

Taylor Swift is bringing more pride to Pennsylvania, not to mention some more award hardware. Swift won three American Music Awards including beating Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Lil Wayne for artist of the year. The 21-year-old Swift previously claimed the award in 2009.

The Phillies grabbed utilityman Ty Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for a player to be named later. Wigginton was a .242 hitter with 15 homers and 47 RBIs in 130 games last season. He played third and first base, left field and right field. The 34-year-old Wigginton has hit .265 with 158 homers and 548 RBIs in 1,190 games in 10 seasons with the New York Mets, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Houston, Baltimore and Colorado. Despite nearly perfect running conditions, two runners died during the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday. A 21-year-old male, collapsed at the finish line and a 40-year-old male collapsed a quarter mile from the finish line. More than 500 investors crowded the ballroom at the Westin Hotel in Center City this week as the Philadelphia Housing Authority held its first auction of houses, lots, and other real estate.
The 400 properties were sold individually and in packages of two to 25.

The Flyers have been impressive on the road this season posting a 6-0-1 road record, but at home they are only 4-3-2. Currently behind the Penguins in the Atlantic Division, the Flyers need to make more out of the Philadelphia home ice advantage.
