Soccer All Star Game to be Played in Philadelphia in 2012 |

Philadelphia will host the 2012 Major League Soccer All Star Game. Actually PPL Park in Chester, home to the Philadelphia Union, will be the site of the game.
The New York-based league said Tuesday that the 18,500-seat stadium will host the event July 25.
The game will be televised on ESPN 2 and ESPN International.

Bruce Springsteen's Wrecking Ball Tour will be coming to Philadelphia in March.
The Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Wrecking Ball world tour starts March 18 in Atlanta and will come to the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia on March 28 and 29. Tickets go on sale this Saturday.

Joe Paterno has passed. Hopefully, Coach Paterno will be forever remembered for his contributions to Penn State, the students, its football program and the impact he had on the lives of the thousands of young men who had the privilege of playing for him.
Today, it seems a terribly sad that Penn State's board of trustees decided to fire Joe Paterno a few weeks ago. Joe should have gone out differently and been given the chance to retire at the end of the season. Not exiled and... Read More |

The Sunoco refinery in Marcus Hook is closed and the refinery in Philadelphia will close by July if Sunoco can't find a buyer for it.
The Philadelphia Business Journal is reporting that there are several interested buyers.
ConocoPhillips has a refinery in Trainer that it has closed and is trying to sell.

Philadelphia's second busiest airline, Southwest, will give its aircraft interiors a cosmetic and environmental makeover.
The cabin updates include recyclable carpet, a brighter color-scheme and a more durable, eco-friendly, and comfortable low-profile seat that weighs less than the current seat. The new interior also boosts the number of seats onboard from 137 to 143 while increasing under-seat room for carryon luggage.

After 50 years of declining population, Philadelphia has seen a significant rebound and the future looks bright. According to new population projections from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the nine-county region will be home to 6.26 million people by 2040, an 11.3 percent increase over the 2010 population of 5.63 million.

Philadelphia lost the last of its Gino's Hamburger joints in 1982 when Marriott bought the company and replaced them with Roy Rogers restaurants. But now, Gino's is making a comeback, led by the original founder Gino Marchetti. A few Gino's are open already including King of Prussia, where 85 year old Gino Marchetti himself can be found working in the kitchen. Gino hopes to expand into downtown Philly this year. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is considering opening Mission Schools to ensure Catholic education in poor, inner-city neighborhoods. Mission Schools would be a new category of schools modeled after successful programs in Philadelphia such as St. Malachy in North Philly. Interestingly, St Malachy is on the list of schools to be closed and merged. The new merged school would become a Mission School.
