Former Philadelphia radio personality, Dave Herman has died in jail. Herman, 78 years old was in custody in a New Jersey jail awaiting trial on charges in a child-sex sting. He was rushed to the hospital Wednesday night from the county jail after complaining of chest pains. Dave Herman introduced the album rock format on the FM dial in Philadelphia in the late 60's on WMMR with a show he called The Marconi Experiment.

It must be bear season in Bucks County. This is the second bear this week, this one showing up in Chalfont. The adult black bear estimated at several hundred pounds is giving Chalfont residents an unusually up close look at the wild, but police are warning residents not to approach or feed the bear. Officials plan to tranquilize and relocate the bear a safe distance from picnic baskets.

With yesterday's storms, trees came down, an underground transformer caught fire and the power went out for thousands of customers across PECO's grid. Over 4,000 people in the city were without power as a result of the transformer fire. PECO has most back on line this afternoon.

The black bear spotted roaming Bensalem has been killed, euthanized early Monday after being found with a broken leg. The bear was found in the woods behind Nifty Fifties injured after possibly being hit by a car or truck but no one has reported having done so. Game officers say the bear, which had previously been tagged, probably made its way from the Poconos searching for new territory.

Same-sex marriages begin today in Pennsylvania. The three day wait period since the ban was lifted makes today the big day for hundreds of couples who raced for marriage licenses as soon as the ruling came down. At one minute after midnight on the steps of the Art Museum, Philadelphia's first same sex wedding took place. A Catholic School principal in Bucks County has pulled an invitation to an Oscars themed graduation dance because it featured a photo of this year's Oscar host, Ellen DeGeneres. Apparently it has nothing to do with using Ellen's likeness without permission. Nancy Matteo, the principal at St. Andrew Elementary said she is withdrawing and destroying the invitations because Ellen "lives her life outside the teachings of the Catholic Church."

Yesterday a federal judge lifted the ban on gay marriage in Pennsylvania opening the flood-gates for same-sex couples to get marriage licenses. Judge John E. Jones said the plaintiffs in the case were courageous for challenging the constitutionality of the gay marriage ban in place since 1996.

Philadelphia police believe a man killed in a car crash this morning may have been a suspect in an overnight rape in the city. The vehicle was travelling at high speed in Kensington on Boudinot Street, failed to negotiate a turn and slammed into a fence. The driver died on impact. The car in the crash is connected to a reported rape overnight on the 2600 block of Collins Avenue.
