Several Philly Schools Locked Down; Police Patrols Increased At Mosques; City Council Bills

A Northeast Philadelphia middle school was on lockdown for two hours Friday morning, 3/15, after a student brought live ammunition to school. It started around 10 a.m. at at Woodrow Wilson Middle School on the 1800 block of Cottman Avenue. A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody for having three live rounds in his possession. Police searched the school and did not find a weapon. No one was injured.

Today, March 14th, has been designated 'Meek Mill Day' in the City of Philadelphia. The proclamation was made by City Council President Darrell Clarke at Thursday morning's city council meeting. March 15th-17th has also been declared 'Meek Mill Weekend.' Pennsylvania State Sen. Sharif Street also honored Meek with a state level proclamation. Mayor Jim Kenney and other officials were on hand Wednesday, 3/13, to announce the last phase of LOVE Park's (aka John F Kennedy Plaza) multi-million dollar renovation. A gas tank explosion rocked a 7-Eleven in Philadelphia's Feltonville neighborhood on Tuesday morning, 3/12. It happened around 11:30 a.m. on the 4700 block of Mascher Street. A suspect is in custody after a fatal stabbing on a SEPTA subway concourse in Center City the day after SEPTA Transit Police went on strike. It happened on Thursday, 3/7, around 6:30 a.m. on the underground concourse at Broad and Spruce Streets near the Walnut-Locust station. Homeless veteran Johnny Bobbitt and Kate McClure pled guilty on Wednesday, 3/6, to federal charges that they, along with McClure's ex-boyfriend Mark D'Amico, concocted a 'feel good' story to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars from the public in a GoFundMe scam. SEPTA Transit Police officers went on strike Wednesday afternoon, 3/6, at 3:30 p.m. after contract negotiations between the union and transit agency broke down. Fraternal Order of Transit Police Lodge 109 represents 178 SEPTA Police officers. They have been working without a contract since March 2018. The Philadelphia Police Department and the Willingboro Police Department are searching for a missing Uber driver. 52-year-old James Benjamin Carter Jr. was last seen by his son on Monday, February 25th. Uber says that he dropped off a passenger at 5:15 p.m. February 27th on the 4900 block of Spruce Street and then deactivated the Uber app. His cell phone is either off or out of battery.
