Philadelphia shoppers have been finding steep surcharges on grocery bills since the sweetened beverage tax kicked in, but Mayor Jim Kenney describes some of it as "gouging" by retailers who want to make customers angry about the tax. Kenney said he believes most customers understand the reason for the tax and he believes it doesn't need to impact them as much as it has. A Philadelphia school bus driver is facing charges for leaving a child on a running bus as he went in to a grocery store in West Philadelphia. 28-year-old Jamar Henry picked up the 7-year-old student from Cornerstone Christian Academy at 58th and Chester Streets on Monday afternoon. Henry stopped at Shop Rite at 67th and Haverford Ave. He told the boy to stay on the bus as he went inside. Passersby saw the child alone on the bus and called police. 31-year-old Ardmore-native Benj Pasek took home a Golden Globe in Sunday night's ceremonies from The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Pasek is a cowriter along with Justin Hurwitz and Justin Paul of the Best Original Song. They wrote the song "City of Stars" from La La Land. A man was seriously injured after a 50 lb dumbbell crashed through the windshield of his SUV as he was driving on the New Jersey Turnpike in Salem County on Monday morning. It happened around 7:18 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 6, north of Interchange 1 in Oldmans Township. Adoptive Mother and Boyfriend Charged in Murder of 14-year-old Grace Packer of Abington

Charges have been filed against both the adoptive mother and her boyfriend in the case of a missing 14-year-old Abington girl found dismembered in Luzerne County last fall. Authorities described the entire gruesome incident as part of a rape-murder fantasy shared between the couple. 41-year-old Sara Packer and 44-year-old Patrick Sullivan have been charged with kidnapping, rape, murder, and related offenses.

A snowplow/salt truck driver got caught in power lines and a traffic light in Delaware County on Saturday afternoon. It happened early Saturday afternoon on northbound Rt. 202 in Chadds Ford near Rt. 1. The driver was attempting to shake or 'bump' salt from the front to the back by raising the trailer. The annual No Pants Subway Ride is scheduled for this Sunday. It started in 2002 by NYC-based comedy group Improv Everywhere and has grown to include cities all over the world. A two vehicle crash in Center City on Friday morning left two people injured and a truck rolled over on its side. The crash happened on the 1500 block of Arch Street at around 4:45 am. Police say the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over after colliding with another car.
