Philadelphia Police are investigating after they say a shot was fired and and a young girl was injured Saturday night in West Philadelphia at 53rd Street and Haverford Avenue. An unsuspecting driver briefly stopped his car to unload something — his three, five, and seven-year-old daughters sitting in the backseat. An autopsy was scheduled Monday for a man whose body was found by a child who was playing along the banks of the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey. Police say a child made the discovery around 3 p.m. Sunday while playing in the area of 28th Street and Adams Avenue. Investigators are trying to positively identify the body, described as a Hispanic man in his 40s. Authorities are not sure how the man died or how long he had been in the water. Fifty years ago today, young people led by then NAACP President Cecil B. Moore began an act of defiance that opened the gates of Girard College to students of color. The protests began in the wee hours of May 1, 1965. They stopped marching when the city sued to admit black students, and celebrated three years later when the school welcomed its first black students. The Freedom Fighters will spend Friday morning re-enacting that historic march at Girard College.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's office will ask a judge today to send Monsignor William Lynn back to prison, now that the State Supreme Court has reinstated his 2012 child endangerment conviction. The DA's office wants Common Pleas Judge Teresa Sarmina, the presiding judge who sentenced Lynn to three-to-six years in prison, to revoke his bail. A Philadelphia Police officer is recovering after a single-car accident in the city's Bustleton section. Officials say the officer was in the only car involved in the crash, at Krewstown Road and Rising Sun Avenue. The officer is reported to be in stable condition.

Four children were rescued on Sunday after Philadelphia Police say they were locked in a basement since Saturday. Police responded to a home on the 1900 block of E. Atlantic St. around 1:30 on Sunday afternoon. Authorities had to use force to enter the home through a second-floor window. When authorities gained entry they found a 13-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl, a 10-year-old girl and a nine-year-old girl locked in the basement of the home. An off-duty Philadelphia police officer opened fire on an armed suspect who attempted to rob him late Wednesday night in the Overbrook section of the city. This happened around 11:45 p.m. on the 5800 block of Malvern Avenue. After work the officer was walking his dog when the suspect approached the officer from behind. One person was killed overnight after his vehicle crashed into a tree along Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound inner lanes near Ryan Avenue in the city's Mayfair section. Police say the 40-year-old driver was trapped inside and had to be cut out of the vehicle. He was rushed to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Despite having the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident in Kensington that killed a 2-year-old boy, Philadelphia Police say the search for two people who were inside the vehicle is still ongoing. The late-model white Infiniti ‘M’ series struck a 2-year-old boy and his mother as they crossed Mascher Street near Lehigh Avenue around 7 p.m. on April 13th.
