A timely start to the Philadelphia school year is even more uncertain at word the state house won’t consider the cigarette tax on Monday. Superintendent Dr. William Hite has said 1,300 layoff notices would go out August 15 without money from the cigarette tax. He says a cash advance from the state doesn’t solve the district’s $81 million deficit. Police in Burlington County are asking for the public's help in identifying a man and a woman wanted in connection with the use of a police officer’s stolen credit card. Maple Shade Police say an officer's personal vehicle was burglarized on Wednesday and his wallet containing his badge, police identification, driver's license, several credit cards, and cash was taken. North Philadelphia Car Crash Anti-Violence Rally

Anti-violence groups led a rally at the North Philadelphia intersection where three children were killed in last week's carjacking and crash. It was at Germantown and Allegheny, where 7-year-old Terrence Moore, 10-year-old Joseph Reed and 15-year-old Keiearra Williams had their lives taken away. Suspects Jonathan Rosa and Cornelius Crawford are facing murder, carjacking, sexual assault and other serious charges. They are being held without bail.

A man is dead after crashing his car into the Delaware River at Penn's Landing Monday night. The black Volkswagon SUV rear-ended another vehicle at 4th and Arch Streets, and was trying to get away from the scene. Battalion Chief Robert Clark of the Philadelphia Fire Department explained, as the vehicle came down the ramp from Chestnut Street to Penn’s Landing, the car went out of control. Police say they have two persons of interest in custody in connection with a deadly carjacking and hit-and-run crash that killed three children in North Philadelphia. Police were questioning two people about the incident at police headquarters. There was no initial word on any charges and the identities of the two people in custody were not immediately released.

Mercy Wellness Center Shooting in Darby, Delaware County; Caseworker and Shooter ID'd

Three people were shot at a medical facility in Delaware County Thursday afternoon. The shooting happened in a patient's room around 2 p.m. in the psychiatric unit at the Mercy Wellness Center, which is adjacent to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby. A caseworker, identified as 53-year-old Theresa Hunt, was killed in the shooting and a doctor, identified as Dr. Lee Silverman, suffered a graze wound. More than 630 Palestinians and about 35 Israelis have died in the conflict in Gaza, and today protesters for both sides rallied in Center City in an effort to raise support for their efforts. Dozens of protestors supporting Palestine stood on the steps of the Municipal Services Building, and directly across the street in Love Park, hundreds of protesters supporting Israel held a rally. Three Atlantic City-area lawmakers want state casino regulators to force the Showboat and Trump Plaza casinos to remain open at least four more months to let prospective buyers kick the tires. Several New Jersey shore towns have the best boardwalks for food in the United States, according to a food and drink website. Eight boardwalks in New Jersey ranked on The Daily Meal’s "31 Best Boardwalks for Food in America" list, including three located in South Jersey. Philadelphia police are investigating the discovery of a body Sunday afternoon in the Pennypack Creek in the city's Rhawnhurst section. The body of a white male was found in the water near Rhawn Street and and Lexington Avenue. The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office, where officials are hoping to find out how this man died.
