The first significant storm of the season is bearing down on the region and will pile up more than half a foot of snow by Wednesday night in parts of the Delaware Valley. Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for the Poconos, Lehigh Valley and northern Bucks, Montgomery and Chester counties. A Winter Weather advisory is in effect for Philadelphia and nearby suburbs. A New York City company is recalling vacuum packs of smoked Nova salmon that were sold to Giant supermarkets in the Mid-Atlantic region because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Acme Smoked Fish Corp. said Tuesday that it is voluntarily recalling 564 pounds of Imported (Product of Denmark) Acme 4oz. (113g) smoked salmon with a lot code of L.05122014. Los Angeles Lakers guard Wayne Ellington Jr. has been granted an indefinite leave of absence from the team after his father was shot and killed Sunday in Philadelphia. The victim, identified as 57-year-old Wayne R. Ellington Sr., was found inside the driver side seat of a vehicle around 8 p.m. Sunday on the 5200 block of Marion Street in Germantown. The federal judge who temporarily stopped New Jersey from allowing legalized sports betting last weekend has set a court date for the state and the professional sports leagues and NCAA to argue whether the ban should be extended. Students arriving at a troubled Philadelphia charter high school Walter D. Palmer High School, Monday morning were told to go home, and informed that the school will be closing for good. Some parents got "robo" calls last night telling them that the school in Frankford, would be closed and that they shouldn't send their children there Monday. Four Edison police officers have been indicted on charges that they conspired to retaliate against an officer from North Brunswick because he arrested one of the Edison officer's relatives for drunken driving. A city council committee has signed off on a sweeping overhaul of how Philadelphia handles large vacant buildings. The changes were spurred by the deaths of firefighters Robert Neary and Daniel Sweeney in April 2012 battling a blaze that had begun in a vacant warehouse.
