Three Atlantic City-area lawmakers want state casino regulators to force the Showboat and Trump Plaza casinos to remain open at least four more months to let prospective buyers kick the tires. Several New Jersey shore towns have the best boardwalks for food in the United States, according to a food and drink website. Eight boardwalks in New Jersey ranked on The Daily Meal’s "31 Best Boardwalks for Food in America" list, including three located in South Jersey. Philadelphia police are investigating the discovery of a body Sunday afternoon in the Pennypack Creek in the city's Rhawnhurst section. The body of a white male was found in the water near Rhawn Street and and Lexington Avenue. The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office, where officials are hoping to find out how this man died.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane carrying 298 people was shot down over eastern Ukraine on Thursday. Ukrainian officials said, and both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft. The bulk of the passengers were from the Netherlands -- 154 people. Next highest was 43 from Malaysia and 27 from Australia. State prosecutors are investigating allegations of campaign finance violations by the mayor of Reading. The allegations were made in a report commissioned by Berks County officials. They revolve around a $30,000 donation to Spencer by Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Philadelphia police are questioning a person of interest in the case of a young woman whose body was found early Monday in a duffel bag in North Philadelphia. Police say the 23-year-old man lives in the West Philadelphia apartment complex at 40th and Brown streets in Mantua that the victim was staying in the past month. Police became suspicious after he walked into a hospital to be treated for burns. Police have determined the identity of the young woman as that of 23-year-old Laura Araujo.... Read More

A teen is hospitalized after he was reportedly struck by lightning in Glenolden, Delaware County. It happened at around 8:00 pm on the unit block of East Ashland Avenue. The 14-year-old boy was leaving to go to his aunt's house. He was struck in the hand as he was getting into the car. The teen was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center and is in good condition. He will be transferred to a children's hospital.

Officials say five people were injured Sunday when a SEPTA paratransit bus and another vehicle collided in the Fairill section of Philadelphia. A brown Cadillac driven by a 48-year-old male ran a red light, then struck the paratransit bus, causing it to overturn. Three passengers on the bus suffered back and neck pain and lacerations to the face and were taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. Philadelphia's schools superintendent says if the state legislature doesn't authorize a cigarette tax by the middle of next month, he'll begin sending out pink slips. The state house reconvenes August 4th to consider an amendment-laden measure authorizing a cigarette tax to help fund Philadelphia schools. The district is losing an estimated $1.6 million in revenue every week that tax is delayed. Superintendent William Hite says revenue from the tax is critical to opening school on time.Read More
