New Jersey lawmakers on Thursday passed legislation that would raise the state's minimum wage to $10.10 in the next year and to at least $15 over the next five years. The legislation now goes to Republican Gov. Chris Christie, who has been critical of the proposal and said it would cost businesses and residents in the form of higher costs. The state House has sent the Senate a bill that would ban elective abortions after 20 weeks. The bill passed with bi-partisan support, but Governor Wolf opposes it. In addition to a ban on elective abortion after 20 weeks, instead of the current 24, also banned would be what the language of the bill calls "dismemberment" abortion. The sponsor of the bill is Warren County Republican Kathy Rapp.

The Democratic National Convention next month in Philadelphia, will include demonstrators are planning to have a national fart-in. Being lead by an activist from Kensington, that says when it comes to advocating for the poor, hungry, and homeless, the party and presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton are full of "rhetorical flatulence." An anti-poverty march on opening day of the convention is also planned despite being denied a protest permit.

A Philadelphia police officer is recovering from injuries suffered in a car crash Sunday evening in Olney. An SUV struck the officer's marked unit, forcing the vehicle to crash into a telephone pole just after 7 p.m. at Front Street and Champlost Avenue. The 35th district officer's condition is not known at this time. People in the striking vehicle were also injured.

Soda Tax Passed, New NJ Attorney General

Philadelphia has become the first major U.S. city to pass a tax on soda. City council approved the 1.5-cent-per-ounce tax on all sweetened beverages by 13-4, a wider margin than expected. The tax is expected to raise $91-million. The mayor plans to sign the bill Monday, but it won't take effect until January, because he anticipated a court challenge and says he's ready to fight.

The Philadelphia Police Department is now sharing video of a car involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed a local teenager. Police say the car that fatally struck 17-year-old Markalyah Jackson can be seen in the video, traveling north on Roosevelt Boulevard, just before the accident took place. According to police, multiple people were injured in a shooting on Tuesday night. Officials say that the multiple shooting took place at S. Van Buren Street and Read Street in Wilmington, Delaware. At this time, there is no word on the conditions of the victims.

Funeral services for "The Voice" star Christina Grimmie will be held later this week near her New Jersey hometown. The 22-year-old singer was shot to death last week as she signed autographs after a show in Orlando.... Read More

Here in Philadelphia hundreds of people gathered at City Hall for a candlelight vigil remembering the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting. Mayor Jim Kenney let the group know the city of Philadelphia stands in solidarity with them. During the vigil the crowd lit candles, held a moment of silence and read the names of those killed in that night club massacre.
