Arrest in 2015 Port Richmond Murder; Cheating in PA State Police Academy; Crash in Clifton Heights

Philadelphia police have made an arrest in the 2015 murder of a Port Richmond woman. 28-year-old James Jones is charged with criminal homicide, burglary, robbery and a list of related offenses. It happened on July 30, 2015 on the 3000 block of Aramingo Ave. Police found 22-year-old Stephanie Dzikowski shot to death in a second floor bedroom. Her 2-year-old daughter was in the room with her. The Phillies have announced they signed former Chicago Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan to a minor league contract. Coghlan played for the Cubs for the 2014 and 2015 season, and part of their World Series 2016 season. In 2009, Coghlan won the National League Rookie of the Year Award while he was on the then Florida Marlins. The Phillies have invited Coghlan to come to spring training in Clearwater this spring.

Philadelphia Police are now searching for a suspect that they say stole a SUV with a baby inside of it on Thursday night. The incident happened near 8th and Snyder streets at around 5:30 pm on Thursday evening. Police say that the suspect jumped in the SUV and that it had the 19-month baby in the back seat. A 17-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police force turned himself in on Wednesday on multiple domestic-related incidents. 51-year-old officer Gerald Smith has now been charged with six-misdemeanors including assault and terroristic threats. Police say that Smith had punched a 46-year-old woman in the eye in January of 2016, as well as backhanding her in the chest during an argument in June. A nearly 20-hour hostage situation at a Delaware state prison ended early this morning when authorities used a backhoe to breach the building. One of the remaining hostages, 47-year-old Sgt. Steven Floyd, was found unresponsive and later died at the hospital. The other remaining hostage, a female counselor, was rescued unharmed. A federal jury acquitted Pennsylvania senator Larry Farnese on Wednesday, after he was under investigation on charges that he spent $6,000 of campaign money as bribes to help him win a Democratic Party ward leadership election in 2011. The acquittal comes after 5 days of testimony from Farnese. SEPTA officials stated that they have officially done away with giving refunds for late trains. SEPTA briefly stopped giving refunds for late trains over the summer after losing one-third of its rail cars created many delays. The service guarantee gave passengers the chance to request a full refund on Regional Rail tickets if a train was more than 15 minutes late. Undercover narcotics officers stopped the abduction of a 25-year-old woman on Tuesday night in Philadelphia's Olde Richmond neighborhood. The officers had received a tip about the possible kidnapping. They went to the Port Richmond Village shopping plaza on the 2400 block of Aramingo Avenue shortly after 8pm. The Hurricanes sealed a 5-1 victory over the Flyers Tuesday night, breaking their 3 game win streak. The Flyers started to fall short in the first period as the Hurricanes led 2-0 and out shot the Flyers 8-4. The Hurricanes then scored again, making it 3-0 at the end of the 2nd period. A man is now in critical condition after being struck by a car in Northeast Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The incident happened on the 9800 block of Roosevelt Boulevard right near Bowler Street around 7 pm. The man, reported to be in his 40's or 50's, was struck in the northbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard.
