The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted full approval to the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, 8/23. The mRNA vaccine had been given an emergency use authorization back in December 2020. Over 200 million doses have been administered since that initial authorization. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wrote to President Joe Biden to say that the Garden State is ready to accept Afghan refugees and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders. "These brave individuals and families - many of whom have worked to assist our military or put their own lives on the line in support of human rights and American initiatives - must not be left behind," Murphy wrote. The 16-year-old lifeguard who was critically injured on the job when his row boat capsized in Cape May on Thursday, 8/19, died from his injuries on Friday night, 8/20. Nelson Inferrera III of Phoenixville, PA, was patrolling in a lifeguard boat when it was broadsided by a wave and flipped over. He was hit in the head and knocked unconscious. Inferrera was out on regular patrol, rowing in a lifeguard boat on Thursday, 8/19. The surf had been rough and he was out in the boat to keep swimmers close to shore.
