A hospital worker armed with multiple weapons, including an AR-15 rifle, entered Jefferson Hospital and shot a co-worker early Monday morning, 10/4. It happened just after midnight at Jefferson University Hospital at 11th and Chestnut in Center City. The 55-year-old male suspect who works as a certified nursing aide entered the hospital wearing scrubs and body armor. He went to the ninth floor and shot a 43-year-old male certified nursing aide. 19-year-old Gilbert Newton of Philadelphia was convicted of first-degree murder on Wednesday, 9/29, in the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend 18-year-old Megan McCaffery of Abington Township.
