April snow showers swept through the region on Saturday. As much as 5 inches of heavy wet snow piled up on some grassy areas with others just getting a slushy coating. Car Crash in Schuylkill, Man Dies; Suspect Shot by Off-Duty Cop; Woman Dead at Staples

The body of a dead man was recovered from a car that had crashed into the Schuylkill River early Saturday morning in Philadelphia. The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. along Kelly Drive in Fairmount Park. Police say the car exited the Roosevelt Boulevard south. It then crossed Ridge Ave and Kelly Drive before hitting the curb and going airborne. The car flipped over and landed in the river about 40 feet from shore. The quality of musicianship was so impressive; one forgets that some of these performers are only in sixth grade! Tens of thousands of Villanova students, alumni, and fans descended upon Center City Philadelphia on Friday afternoon for a victory parade for the 2016 NCAA National Champion Men's Basketball team. Philadelphia now has a new fire commissioner. Adam Theil who was commissioner in Virginia for 7 years and was most recently the deputy secretary of Virginia's Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs department will now be Philly's new fire commissioner. Mayor Jim Kenney announced in December they were in the search for a new commissioner, and have now found one.

A juror in the Daniel Dougherty arson/murder trial was dismissed today, five days into deliberations, due to emotional reasons. The jury sent the judge a note late on Tuesday saying that unidentified juror told the others that "[w]e are going to cause her to have a nervous breakdown." They said she was alternately pacing the room and putting her head on the table, hyperventilating, and taking anxiety pills.
