Two mothers were killed and a teen injured after a car lost control and struck them while walking on the sidewalk in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night, 8/26. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 600 block of N. 35th Street Near Mount Vernon St. in Mantua. A 30-year-old, a 58-year-old and her 14-year-old daughter were walking to pick up food. Philadelphia officials unveiled a new mural above the entrance to the Municipal Services Building across from City Hall in Center City. The painting was created in conjunction with the Mural Arts program. Artist Russell Craig says, "I came up with the crown design. Corona translates to English, crown. The National NAACP will be taking over the Philadelphia chapter after Philly's President Rodney Muhammad posted an anti-Semitic meme to Facebook last month. The executive board of the Philadelphia Chapter of the NAACP voted to allow the national office to replace all of its leadership. A federal judge as ruled that the City of Philadelphia can 'dissolve and terminate' three homeless encampments located throughout the city. U.S. Eastern District of Pennsylvania Judge Eduardo C. Robreno was ruling on a temporary restraining order filed on behalf of the campers. Registration is now open for Philadelphia's new free Access Center program. The School District of Philadelphia is starting this academic year fully digital. The program is designed for vulnerable families where the caregivers work outside the home and do not have or cannot afford childcare. Philadelphia Catholic League Cancels Fall Sports; Major Zoom Outage; Church Attack Woman in Custody

The Philadelphia Catholic League has decided not to hold a Fall Sports season for 2020. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia made the announcement on Monday, 8/24. This affects the 17 Archdiocesan high schools in the Greater Philadelphia area. La Salle and St. Joe's Prep compete in the Catholic League, but are not Archdiocesan schools. They are still considering competing as independents in football.

The Republican National Convention will be held mostly virtually this week August 24 - 27, 9 p.m. - 11 p.m. nightly. Due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the usual large ceremonial convention with all the pomp and circumstance will not be held in person as it was planned for Charlotte, NC this year. The 2020 convention is still located in Charlotte, but only 6 delegates per state/territory are present. Parts will also come from Washington, D.C.
