Loose Schuylkill River Barge Wedges on Bridge; Body of Missing 5yo Found; NWS Confirms 6 Tornadoes

Barges being used by the Army Corps of Engineers to dredge parts of the Schuylkill River broke loose during Tropical Storm Isaias on Tuesday afternoon, 8/4. The three barges, which include one with a crane, are currently wedged under the bridge for the Vine Street Expressway I-676. The Vine Street Expressway is currently closed between I-76 and Broad Street. City Officials, PennDOT, and the Army Corps of Engineers are working together figure out how to move the barge. Tropical Storm Isaias blasted through the area on Tuesday leaving behind widespread flooding and wind damage. The storm spawned several tornados that caused damage to trees, cars, and buildings in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The National Weather Service is still surveying damage in Doylestown, Bucks County to determine if a tornado touched down in that area. An Amber Alert for a missing 2-year-old Delaware boy remains in effect and authorities are asking the public's help in identifying two new suspects. Police are searching for a white vehicle seen near East Market Street and North Race Street around 1 a.m. on July 26. 7-year-old Zamar Jones, who was shot in the head as he played on his porch on Sunday, 8/2, has died from his injuries. It happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 200 block of North Simpson Street in West Philadelphia. Jones was playing with his toys when he was caught in the crossfire of a shootout between two groups of people. 16 shell casings were found at the scene. Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Doug Pederson has tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. He is reportedly asymptomatic and feeling fine. 52-year-old Pederson informed the team at an unscheduled meeting on Sunday. He must now quarantine. Another staffer who was in close contact with him was also sent home.
