Sacred Crosses and Gold Stolen from St. Simon |

Sometime after Sunday services, thieves entered St. Simon the Cyrenian Church at 22nd and Reed Streets in the city's Point Breeze section and stole several sacred items, including gold crosses, chalices, candle holders, bells and collection plates. Monday morning, the church sexton discovered that thieves had gone through the church, breaking open locks on all the storage areas. Most of the stolen items had belonged to St. Simon for decades. The right lane of the Walt Whitman bridge into New Jersey will be closed for 5 weeks starting August 26.
This week begins a series of lane closures because of this redecking project.
This week's restrictions are for preliminary work with lane closures on different days and times.

Teen Curfew Begins in Philadelphia and will be Enforced |

Beginning tonight at 9 pm the extended earlier curfew for teens 18 and under took effect in Center City and University City. Additional police patrol on foot, bike, and mount will be on patrol to enforce and pick up violators.

Philadelphia bicyclists beware.....traffic citations may be coming your way.
Philadelphia Traffic Court president Judge Thomasine Tynes suggests, making city bicyclists register their bikes, cite them for moving violations such as riding on the sidewalk or blowing through stop signs, and then have those tickets dealt with by Traffic Court.
