Philadelphia police are searching for a woman who was caught on surveillance camera assaulting a man on a SEPTA bus last month. Police say a woman described as black, 5'5" with a stocky build boarded the bus, approached a man sitting a few rows behind her and began assaulting him, punched and slapped the victim, causing injuries to his head and face. She was wearing a pink shirt, dark jeans and white sunglasses.

A Philadelphia police officer is being fired, charged today with also being a heroin dealer. Officer Jonathan Garcia was arrested and charged in federal court with four counts of distributing heroin and two counts of carrying a firearm during a drug crime. Officials say the three-year veteran of the force sold heroin to an undercover FBI agent.

There is a critical need for blood donations in our region. Since the beginning of June, the American Red Cross has collected 2,000 fewer blood donations than planned. It’s very urgent that people who are blood donors — or would like to be blood donors — find a blood drive near them, and schedule an appointment. To find a local blood drive, go to www.redcrossblood.org/pennjersey or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
