PA Trooper in Hit-And-Run; PA Supreme Court Dismisses Mail-in Suit; NJ Extends Mail-In Voting

A Pennsylvania State Trooper was injured in a hit-and-run in the East Falls section of Philadelphia on Saturday morning, 5/16. It happened around 10:30 a.m. on the 3400 block of School House Lane near Apalogen Road. The trooper was on a motorcycle when he was struck by a car. The vehicle was last seen fleeing westbound on Ridge Avenue. The trooper was taken to Temple University Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time, but he is expected to be ok. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Thursday, 5/14, that the Jersey Shore as well as lake shores will be open this summer. All public and private beaches will be open effective May 22 in time for Memorial Day Weekend, with social distancing guidelines in place. A bill permitting some restaurants and bars to sell prepared alcoholic beverages to go passed the Pennsylvania Senate on Wednesday, 5/13. It was a unanimous vote 48-0. The bill previously passed the PA House of Representatives on 4/28 by a 193-9 vote. It will now go to Governor Wolf's desk. A security guard is being charged for shooting three teenagers on a SEPTA bus last month that he claimed was in self defense. 24-year-old Brandon Ferguson is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. It happened around 1 a.m. on April 16 on the Route 58 SEPTA bus northbound on Bustleton Ave. in Oxford Circle. The three teens, ages 15, 16, and 17, approached Ferguson in the back of the bus.
