Radio operators in Philadelphia and beyond are celebrating this Independence Day holiday weekend "hamming it up" with a special worldwide event. Bob Josuweit, president of the Holmesburg Amateur Radio Club, says ham radio operators in each of the original 13 colonies will be on the air to make contacts with other ham radio operators around the country and literally around the world to help celebrate their independence. Tame Impala's new album Currents is expected to be released in two weeks on July 17th. In the meantime, to keep you excited, they have just put out a short 'making of' video. It features clips of the Aussie band in the studio, on stage, driving around, and looking very contemplative. The entire thing is surreal and psychedelic but that is what you'd expect. Bridge Discount for Frequent Drivers; Body of Teen Found in NJ Lake; Manco/Manco Owners Plead Guilty

The Delaware River Port Authority finance committee has approved a measure that would reduce tolls for regular bridge commuters between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Drivers who use the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges at least 18 times a month would see the toll drop from $5 to $4. This could save daily commuters over $200 a year. The discount would be calculated automatically on your E-ZPass bill. This proposal would affect 29,000 drivers. The... Read More

According to Yahoo Sports reports, the 76ers are picking up star shooting guard Nik Stauskus as part of a salary dump by the Sacramento Kings. Sixers also get forwards, Jason Thompson, Carl Landy, and a future top-10 protected first round pick. Stauskas was the eighth pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and had a good rookie season, hitting 50 of his last 118 shots from 3 point range. Reports say the Sixers only gave up a couple of second round European player picks.

Veteran substitute teachers are frustrated over the pay being offered by a company now managing subs for Philadelphia schools. John Renfro calls the $90-a-day being offered to Philadelphia substitutes next year "a joke." He says last school year, he made more than twice that under the PFT contract. District spokesman Fernando Gallard says Source4Teachers is paying market rates in suburban districts. The teachers union, though, has filed an unfair labor practice complaint.

In the run up to his takeover of the "Late Show" on NBC, future host Stephen Colbert took over a local Michigan public access show. Only in Monroe airs on Monroe Public Access Cable Television in Monroe, MI. Colbert interviewed the show's regular hosts, former Miss America Kaye Lani Rafko-Wilson and registered nurse Michelle Baumann. Tornado EF-1 Confirmed in Honey Brook; Serial Burglar in Philly; 4th Broomall Suspect Caught in NC

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado near Honey Brook, Chester County on Tuesday. The EF-1 tornado hit at 2:11 pm with estimated maximum winds of 95mph. It had a maximum width of 100 yards and travelled 1.5 miles. They assessed damage along Talbotville Road up to Morgantown Road. Several homes were damaged with roofs ripped off. SEPTA Revises Route 23; Mudslide Closes Road; Tax Lien Sale Nets Millions

SEPTA is changing its busiest bus route. The Route 23 bus will become two distinct routes known as the 23 bus and the 45 bus because the 23 had a tough time staying on schedule. The new northern route will be the 23 and run between Chestnut Hill and Center City. The new 45 will replace the southern part of the route will use 11th Street to Noble between Callowhill and Spring Garden. The change will help reduce overcrowding.

Wolf Vetoes PA Budget, NWS Honey Brook Tornado Study, SRC Adopts Budget

Pennsylvania will start the new budget year without a spending plan. Governor Tom Wolf wasted no time announcing Tuesday night he will veto the entire budget. The legislature also sent Wolf two other major pieces of legislation, bills that would privatize liquor sales and would overhaul pensions for school and state employees. The governor has previously indicated opposition to both but said he’ll withhold his veto for now pending a review of those bills.
