SEPTA Revises Route 23; Mudslide Closes Road; Tax Lien Sale Nets Millions

SEPTA is changing its busiest bus route. The Route 23 bus will become two distinct routes known as the 23 bus and the 45 bus because the 23 had a tough time staying on schedule. The new northern route will be the 23 and run between Chestnut Hill and Center City. The new 45 will replace the southern part of the route will use 11th Street to Noble between Callowhill and Spring Garden. The change will help reduce overcrowding.

Balligomingo Road in West Conshohocken is closed indefinitely, following a mudslide Saturday. The weekend's heavy rains caused mud and debris to slide from the slope above the road. PennDot will work with West Conshohocken Borough to stabilize the slope and prevent future erosion. While work continues, the road will be closed between Route 23 and Portland Road. Traffic will be detoured to Route 23 and Route 320 during the closure.

An online sale of liens on tax-delinquent properties has netted Philadelphia $2.1 million according to city officials. More than a quarter of the 865 liens that were for sale were picked up by investors. The threat of the sale alone moved owners of more than 1,400 delinquent properties to pay $5.5 million to clear back taxes owed. And a further 506 property owners enrolled in payment plans to cover $2.2 million in unpaid taxes. The auction, completed Tuesday, was a pilot program of the Revenue Department and one in a series of efforts by the city to deal with its 98,000 tax-delinquent properties, which represent nearly one in five parcels in the city.
