Philadelphia Area Legislators Oppose Corbett Food Stamps Moves |

Philadelphia area legislators gathered today to criticize a series of moves by Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett that they say are aimed at cutting programs for poor people.
The most recent change — imposing an asset test for food stamp applicants — will actually cost the state money, according to George Matysik of the food bank Philabundance, because food stamps are paid for by the federal government and spent in local grocery stores.

Bonnie Sweeten, the Bucks County woman who faked her own kidnapping and fled to Disney World as her thieving past was catching up to her, has been sentenced to just over eight years in federal prison.
Sweeten today told the judge she was sorry. She apologized to all the victims from whom she stole a total of more than $1 million.
Victims included her former law firm boss, clients, even a 91-year-old relative suffering from dementia.

Andy Musser "did play-by-play for every major sports team in Philadelphia except the NHL Flyers", says the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He worked Phillies baseball from 1976 to 2001, most of that time alongside the legendary Harry Kalas and Richie "Whitey" Ashburn.
Musser broadcast the NBA Philadelphia 76ers championship team that included Wilt Chamberlain.

Philadelphia will host the 2012 Major League Soccer All Star Game. Actually PPL Park in Chester, home to the Philadelphia Union, will be the site of the game.
The New York-based league said Tuesday that the 18,500-seat stadium will host the event July 25.
The game will be televised on ESPN 2 and ESPN International.
