After spending most of Saturday listed in serious condition and surrounded by family and friends, Joe Paterno died early Sunday at the hospital in State College.
His family released a statement Sunday morning to announce his death: "His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled."

Former Penn State Head Football Coach Joe Paterno is in serious condition according to his doctors and family. His health has taken a turn for the worse Saturday and family and friends have been summoned to the hospital.

The Sunoco refinery in Marcus Hook is closed and the refinery in Philadelphia will close by July if Sunoco can't find a buyer for it.
The Philadelphia Business Journal is reporting that there are several interested buyers.
ConocoPhillips has a refinery in Trainer that it has closed and is trying to sell.

Philadelphia's second busiest airline, Southwest, will give its aircraft interiors a cosmetic and environmental makeover.
The cabin updates include recyclable carpet, a brighter color-scheme and a more durable, eco-friendly, and comfortable low-profile seat that weighs less than the current seat. The new interior also boosts the number of seats onboard from 137 to 143 while increasing under-seat room for carryon luggage.

Police arrest 3 suspects in Old City beating death of Kevin Kless |

6 ABC reports today police arrested three suspects Friday night in the Old City beating murder, and reports say at least two of the three have confessed.
Philadelphia Police held a news conference shortly after midnight announcing the arrests.
The suspects have been identified as 20 year old Steven Ferguson, 19 year old Kenneth Santiago, and 23 year old Felix Carrillo all from Philadelphia.

Etta James Dies at 73 |

Etta James, the powerhouse singer who combined blues, gospel and R&B and emerged as a major star in the '50s and '60s, has died after a long battle with leukemia.
Best known for her 1961 version of 'At Last,' James enjoyed a remarkable career that spanned more than a half-century. Over the years, she won six Grammy awards, and in 1993, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
James died in a Riverside, Calif., hospital. She was 73.

The first snowfall of any significance this whole winter is expected to affect the region late tonight and into Saturday morning and afternoon. The entire snowfall for the month of January is at .2 inches. The last storm with any kind of accumulating wintry precipitation was way back on Halloween weekend.

After 50 years of declining population, Philadelphia has seen a significant rebound and the future looks bright. According to new population projections from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the nine-county region will be home to 6.26 million people by 2040, an 11.3 percent increase over the 2010 population of 5.63 million.
