The Pope is now on Twitter. Pope Benedict XVI has joined hundreds of millions of followers and tweeters. The Pope already has almost 680,000 followers. His first tweet this morning read, “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. A child was rushed to the hospital after shooting herself in the foot in the city's Port Richmond neighborhood Tuesday night. It happened at about 11 p.m. on the 1800 block of Wishart Street. Police do not believe the shooting to be suspicious.

The family of the man shot by an off duty Philadelphia police officer three years ago has been awarded $4.7 million dollars by a federal jury. The jury also found the City of Philadelphia not responsible, ruling that Officer Frank Tepper was not acting as an officer during a drunken scuffle outside a baby shower. Tepper was convicted of murder and is in prison for life.

The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced. From the longer list of possible nominees Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Heart, Randy Newman, Rush and Albert King were voted to join the Hall next year. Quincy Jones and Lou Adler will join them in the non-performing catergory via the AHMET ERTEGUN award. Left out from this year's class were Joan Jett, Kraftwerk, N.W.A., The Marvelettes, The Meters, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Procol Harum, and Chic.

A fire in a South Philadelphia warehouse destroyed the props of the Fralinger String Band they were planning to use on New Year’s Day at the Mummers Parade. The four alarm blaze sent one woman to the hospital and destroyed one home while affecting others. The fire is believed to have started in an illegal auto repair shop that has had previous citations.

Last Tuesday, 20-year-old Ashley Ryan Hareford of Grottoes, Virginia allegedly lured a 13-year-old Radnor, PA girl away from her home and took her on a bus to Washington, D.C. The two were stopped at Union Station by authorities after they received a tip from someone who saw them board the bus at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.

A fire broke out this afternoon in South Philadelphia at the storage location for the Fralinger String Band. The four alarm blaze started about 2 this afternoon where Fralinger stores its props at 2nd and Wharton Streets. Dozens of firefighters were called in to bring the blaze under control. At least one injury was reported and a wall has collapsed during the fire, which is still under investigation.

The Delaware County medical examiner's office has ruled that Teresa Mastracola death was by suicide. The 44-year-old Millbourne woman had been missing for a week when her body was found in Ridley Creek State Park. The coronor’s report says Mastracola killed herself by inhaling helium causing asphyxiation.
Mastracola was last seen on December 3rd leaving her home on Milbourne Ave. She was an avid hiker and bicyclist who often frequented Ridley Creek State Park in Edgemont. She... Read More |

This past weekend's water main break along the 1600 block of Walnut Street in Center City is still causing disruptions downtown indefinitely. The water main broke at around 4:30 Saturday afternoon and was fixed by Sunday morning, but the street is still shutdown and a large hole remains.
