Wedding Crasher Surrenders in Gwynedd; Rare Photo/Baton Return in Plea Deal

The man who was suspected of stealing thousands of dollars by taking the wedding cards after a reception in Montgomery County on Sunday July 7th has surrendered. Joseph Patrick Franzone, Jr., 35, turned himself into a District Justice in Lower Gwynedd Township Friday morning. The groom's sister was loading her car with gifts and placed the box of cards in the back seat. The next time she returned to the car it was gone. Surveillance video showed a man casing the area, and tips from the public led to identify Franzone. Assistant District Attorney Lindsay O’Brien says Franzone Jr. has a long history of crime including theft, buglary, and drug charges. His bail is set at $150,000.

Andrea Lawton, the Philadelphia woman who plead guilty to stealing a rare bust of Benjamin Franklin, will not have to serve additional jail time for another item she stole. Last August, Lawton was working as a house cleaner at a Main Line home when she was fired. Upset about her employment she stole the bust (valued at $3 million) and a rare shadow box containing a photo and baton of composer-conductor Victor Herbert. The 47-year-old woman is currently serving a 6 year sentence in federal prison for taking the statue, transporting, and trying to sell it. A Montgomery County judged sentenced her to 10 years probation following her prison term if she returned the shadow box, which did happen in court today.
