Why are Philadelphia taxpayers picking up the tab for the bike race? That's the question being raised after years of private sponsor funding, the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic featuring the famed Manayunk Wall, was formally taken over by the city. The cost to taxpayers is over $1 million, 5 times the taxpayer tab over 2014 when the city kicked in only $200,000.

A SEPTA police officer is recovering after he was assaulted overnight at a station along the Market-Frankford Line. It happened around 2 a.m. Monday at the Huntington Station along the 2500 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington.The officer was attacked at street level as he was closing the station after service had ended. Authorities in Camden County, New Jersey are investigating a shooting at an assisted living facility that they are calling a murder-suicide. It happened around 5:30 p.m. at the Genesis Healthcare Facility on the 3000 block of Evesham Road in Vorhees. 62-year-old George Bullet III of Lumberton came to visit his mother, 85-year-old Andree Bullet. Authorities have captured a fugitive convicted on drug charges who escaped from a South Jersey prison early on Saturday morning. 41-year-old Panagioti Souris was arrested without incident around 4 p.m. at 6th and Market in Philadelphia. Officials with the New Jersey Department of Corrections noticed that he was missing from his bed at the Ancora facility of Bayside State Prison Saturday around 6 a.m. Souris was serving a maximum sentence of five years for two heroin charges. Oldest Polar Bear, Klondike, Dies in Philly; Villanova Students Protest Armed Police

The country's oldest polar bear died on Friday at the Philadelphia Zoo. Klondike was 34-years-old. Zoo officials started noticing a serious decline in her health starting two weeks ago and she had difficulty standing and walking. Despite treatment she was not improving and they decided to euthanize her this morning. Klondike was born at the Bronx Zoo in 1980 and has lived at the Philadelphia Zoo since 1981. Triplets are rare. Identical triplets are almost unheard of (pictured). But a Baltimore couple gave birth to identical triplets earlier this month. Tom and Kristen Hewitt welcomed identical triplets to the world on October 6 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Thomas III (Trip), Finnegan (Finn) and Oliver (Ollie) Dean were born by C-section at 33 ½ weeks old. All of the boys weighed in between three and five pounds. How rare is this? Mazda says it is recalling 4.9 million older vehicles worldwide, including 1.36 million in the U.S., because ignition switches could overheat and catch fire. The U.S. recall covers the 1990-1996 323 and Protege, the 1993-1998 626, the 1993-1995 929, the 1993-1997 MX-6, the 1989 to 1998 MPV and the 1992-1993 MX-3. Police in Radnor Township have arrested a man accused of trying to lure three students outside an elementary school. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of West Wayne and Arbordale Avenues near Wayne Elementary School in Delaware County. The Camden Riversharks, the independent professional baseball team that has played at the city's waterfront Campbell's Field for 15 years, has ceased all operations, according to a statement from the team.
