Philly Schools Now Hiring; Boaters Rescued in Cape May; DNC Marketing Campaign

The Philadelphia School District is hiring teachers and the superintendent wants all positions filled by the end of the month. Since Dr. William Hite announced plans to hire 800 teachers, the district is working through more than 1,200 applications. Hite said there were a lot of vacancies throughout last year and without teachers, classes had to be split up and covered by other teachers.

The sixth annual Sundrop Music and Arts Festival is back at the Fire, with three nights and two days of the best music, food, and craft vendors Philadelphia has to offer.

The event will kick-off June 2nd at 10pm, with a Clash Tribute Night, and will continue through the weekend. It ends with a send-off party on Sunday.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a man in connection with a rape and an assault, of two females officials believe to be a mother and daughter, which took place in Frankford on Tuesday. Police announced that Malik Bailey was arrested on Wednesday. Police say that a 13-year-old girl said that she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, Bailey. The incident took place on the 1900 block of Pratt Street. The girl was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for treatment.

Two people are dead in what is being called a murder-suicide on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The shooting prompted a massive tactical response on the campus involving hundreds of officers from numerous agencies. The campus was put on lockdown as SWAT teams searched the school. Villanova visited the White House yesterday. The men's basketball Wildcats got an audience with President Barack Obama after winning this year's NCAA men's basketball championship. Philadelphia Police announced a police involved shooting that took place on Tuesday night. Officials say the shooting took place around 11:15 p.m. The shooting occurred at Broad Street and Tioga Street in North Philadelphia. Authorities say an off-duty Philadelphia Police officer discharged their weapon at a green Monte Carlo. The vehicle was last seen heading north on Broad Street. Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect wanted for the brutal assault of a 38-year-old woman and the sexual assault of a 13-year-old teenage girl in a Frankford home early Tuesday morning. It happened around 12:30 a.m. on the 1900 block of Pratt Street. Rick MacLeish, a three-time all-star and the Flyers first ever 50 goal scorer has died. MacLeish had been battling meningitis, along with kidney and liver problems. Flyers president Paul Holmgren called MacLeish "A good father, grandfather, teammate and friend." Rick MacLeish was 66.
