Organizers for the World Meeting of Families announced the musical performers that would take the stage at the foot of the Art Museum steps on the Ben Franklin Parkway during the Festival of Families on Saturday, September 26th. Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, Colombian rock/pop star Juanez, and the Philadelphia Orchestra will all perform. The orchestra is also set to play the next day during the Papal Mass with a 500 member choir. The choice of entertainers shows the international nature of the entire event and the Pope's visit and reminds us that the world will have it's eyes on us this fall.

Philly's, now L.A. based, punk duo Girlpool have released a video for "Magnifying Glass" off their latest album Before The World Was Big (available now). The song is only 40 seconds, but they fit a lot visually into this clip. It plays like a flip book and turns lyrical metaphors like growing and picking people in a garden into reality. It was directed by Craig Scheihing who also just recent helped Hop Along with their video for the stop-animated "Powerful Man." Girlpool be playing Philly twice this summer: 7/26 at First Unitarian Church w/ Pile, Sheer Mag, SANDY Alex G, Quarterbacks and on 8/14 at Everybody Hits w/ Frankie Cosmos. Watch the video below:

The full performance scenes of both Soundgarden and Alice in Chains from the 1992 Cameron Crowe movie Singles are now available. In the film, the bands are only shown performing briefly in a venue. This year's Blu-ray release contains their whole uncut takes, which you can see on YouTube clips below. Soundgarden played “Birth Ritual” which was written just for the soundtrack. Alice in Chains played “It Ain't Like That” off of their album Facelift. The soundtrack contains other big Seattle grunge acts from the time including Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Mud Honey, and the Screaming Trees. The movie itself was a romantic comedy about a group of 20-something's living in an apartment complex, a grungier Friends. It starred Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, and Matt Dillon.
