Philadelphia indie rockers Hop Along released their sophomore album Painted Shut on the Saddle Creek label this Tuesday to critical acclaim. The quartet features Frances Quinlan (vocals, guitar), Mark Quinlan (drums), Tyler Long (bass), and Joe Reinhart (guitar). It has been described as brutal, honest, and bare storytelling told through Frances' unique vocals and backed by guitar-driven indie rock. The band has also released a music video for the track "Powerful Man." The video was created using an interesting (and time consuming) process of animating prints and watercolors. It was directed by Craig Scheihing. Cat Park (of Amanda X) and Frances Quinlan worked on the painting/animation. The video stars Tiff Yoon (also of Amanda X). Check out the music video below:

Errol Brown, lead singer for the British disco group Hot Chocolate, has died at age 71. His manager says that he was suffering from liver cancer and was at home in the Bahamas with his wife and children by his side. Hot Chocolate had their biggest hit in 1975 with “You Sexy Thing.” The song made a comeback in 1997 when it was included in the soundtrack for The Full Monty. The group's other hit was 1973's “Brother Louie” which is used as the theme song to the TV show Louie. He was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth in 2003.

Eddie Murphy has released a music video for his latest reggae song “Oh Jah Jah”. The low budget video and song at first glance may seem like the mega-movie, comedy star is joking, but he is perfectly serious. The lyrics however are just reggae nonsense, “Jah, Babylon, Zion, etc.” Murphy has admitted that he is not Rastafarian and calls on Jah because that's what you do in reggae. The music itself is not bad. Will we hear more from Axel Foley? Akeem Joffer says it depends on the public reception to this track.
