The 33rd annual Broad Street Run was held this morning with perfect running weather, overcast upper 50's and low humidity. The 40,000 participants ran the 10-miler from Central High School in North Philly down to the Navy Yard in South Philly passing by cheering crowds all along the route. The race has grown in popularity recently, partly due to a younger and more active city population, into the largest 10 mile race in the country. The men's winner was Henry Rutto with a time of 47:05. The women's winner was Esther Erb who ran it in 55:26. More Results here

On the eve of the civil trial for the horrific July 2010 Duck Boat accident and crash that killed two Hungarian students, another Ride the Ducks tourist boat stalled on the Delaware River on Sunday afternoon. This time, however, there was no accident as the boat was quickly towed to shore with it's 26 passengers and two crew members. After the 2010 incident the company worked with the Coast Guard to create a safety plan that includes a shorter route for the water part of the tour to avoid larger boats and to always have a tow boat nearby. A mechanical problem caused the boat to stall. "Like any other mechanical vehicle, vessels may sometimes stall. The important point was that our safety procedures worked just as they had been planned and practiced. At no time were passengers in harm's way," said Greg Blumenthal, RTD Philadelphia general manager. See Also: New Duck Boat Video Released
