Upper Darby Police Meet Ax Wielder, Feds Investigate Kensington Fire, NJ's Permit To Grow Marijuana

19-year-old Joshua Burno is in critical condition at University of Penn Hospital after he was shot yesterday morning in his home following a planned, ax-wielding ambush on police. He wanted officers to fire on him, so he made a 911 call threatening to harm his family and waited for police to arrive. Burno busted through a closet door in the entryway when police arrived, breaking the door and wildly swing an ax at Police.

Federal investigators from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) will be helping local investigators search for answers in the deaths of Bob Neary and fellow firefighter Daniel Sweeney who both died in the Kensington warehouse fire. So far, a team of fire department investigators, police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have not determined how the fire started.

New Jersey has issued its first permit for a nonprofit group, Montclair-based Greenleaf Compassion Center, to grow medical marijuana legally. A second permit would need to be granted before the center can begin selling pot to patients. Greenleaf is one of six centers chosen last year by the state to grow and sell cannabis.
