The Philadelphia Archdiocese has announced it will close seven parishes in Northwest Philadelphia and Coatesville. The closings were announced at Mass, Sunday, but the archdiocese says parishioners were sent letters earlier so they were prepared. They include St. Francis of Assisi and Immaculate Conception in Germantown as well as St. Josephat, St. Lucy and St. Mary of the Assumption in Manayunk. In Coatesville, St. Cecilia and St. Stanislaus Kostka will close. The parishes will be merged into other churches, located nearby. Many of the buildings will remain open, during a transition period, for weddings, funerals and special services. Only St. Francis of Assisi and Immaculate Conception will close completely. The closings are scheduled for July 1st.

Developers plan to break ground on a new affordable housing project for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender senior citizens. Project spokesperson Mark Segal says the housing project will be built on 13th Street between Locust and Spruce. More information about the future 56-unit building will be made available when the project is officially announced today.

A high school senior was killed after a two car crash in Washington Township, Gloucester County, Saturday night. 18-year-old Nicole Killenyi was a passenger in a friend’s car, when the car collided with a pickup truck. Nicole was trapped in the backseat and pronounced dead at the hospital. Friends staged a vigil at the crash site on Sunday evening and mourned their loss.
