Defense attorneys plan to use an insanity defense in the case of a woman charged with the murder of her two young children. They were found in the basement of their Lehigh Valley home last year. 37-year-old Lisa Synder is charged with first- and third-degree murder, child endangerment, and evidence-tampering in the deaths of 4-year-old Brinley and 8-year-old Conner. In September 2019, the two children were discovered in the basement of their Albany Township home hanging by a dog leash. They died in the hospital three days later. The Lehigh County coroner’s office ruled the cause of death hanging and manner of death homicide.

Defense attorneys for Synder said in a filing with Berks CountyCourt on Thursday say that Snyder has a "chronic history of severe mental disorders," including major depression with psychotic features, anxiety disorder, affective disorder and post-partum depression dating to when she was 16. At the time of the alleged homicides, they said, Snyder had recurrent and severe depression as well as borderline personality disorder and symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder, multiple personality disorder, and dissociative disorder.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty if she is convicted of first-degree-murder.

Abington Police are investigating after a shooting outside of the Willow Grove Mall on Sunday night, 11/15. It happened just before 6 p.m. in the parking lot outside of Nordstrom Rack and Primark. One person was shot. They were taken to Abington-Jefferson Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The shooter fled the area. No arrests have been made, but police say that the neighborhood is safe. A spokesperson for the mall released this statement, "The safety and security of our shoppers is our top priority and, at this time, we are fully cooperating with the police investigation. While we aren't at liberty to share any details, we are wishing for a speedy recovery of anyone who may have been harmed and are thankful to the Abington PD for their quick response."

One person is in custody after fire medics were ambushed and an ambulance was damaged while they were on a call early Sunday morning, 11/15. It happened just after midnight on the 1200 block of West Somerset Street in the city’s Hunting Park section. The medics were out on a call assisting a man when the suspect approached and starting throwing bricks at the ambulance and jumping on the hood. The medics called for police assistance, but the man ran off before they arrived. The ambulance had to be taken out of service due to extensive damage. Police have someone in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
