PA Online Voter Registration, 2016 Liberty Medal Awarded, Temple PBJ Day

Pennsylvania's online voter registration system has logged its 500,000th user. Meanwhile, a top elections official is reassuring the public about the integrity of the upcoming election. Pennsylvania's online voter registration system was launched a year ago in August. The fact that it has already reached half a million users would seem to heighten concerns about election security in the computer era. Marian Schneider - deputy secretary for elections and administration in the Department of State - says Pennsylvania is working with federal officials to ensure the security of systems that are linked to the Internet.

The National Constitution Center has awarded its 2016 Liberty Medal to a civil rights icon who to this day continues to protest and fight for equality. In the 1960's, Rep John Lewis marched on Washington D.C. with Dr. Martin Luther king. He also led protests for voting rights in Selma. For decades he's fought for Georgia’s 5th district in the US House of Representatives. And on Monday night he was honored with the 2016 Liberty Medal. Each year, the Liberty Medal is presented to a person who shows courage and conviction in an effort to bring liberty to people all around the world. Past medal recipients include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Muhammad Ali and Steven Spielberg.

Temple University has accomplished a lot, and on Monday night, they added a new accomplishment to that list. In celebration of Temple PB&J day, more than 1,100 volunteers at the school attempted to break the Guinness World Record for most Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches made in an hour. The goal was accomplished on Monday night. A total of 49,100 sandwiches were made in the hour. The goal for the event was set at 40,000 sandwiches and was greatly surpassed. All of the sandwiches made will be donated to Philadelphia food banks.
