JFK Terminal Evacuated Sunday, AG Kane Closing Arguments, PA Elections Review

Police evacuated Terminal 8 at JFK airport in New York after Port Authority Police received a call of shots fired in the departures area last night. There were no injuries, no arrests and no confirmation of shots fired. A ground stop had been issued at the airport due to "security" until 11:30 p.m. ET, according to the FAA command system website.

Closing arguments will be made this morning in the trial of Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, and then it will be up to the jury to decide if she is guilty or not guilty of leaking secret grand jury information to get back at a rival, then lying under oath to try to cover it up. Prosecutors say, after bad press in April, 2014, Kane set out to get revenge against former state prosecutor Frank Fina. Prosecutors showed text messages and phone records, which they say shows intent and state of mind. Kane did not take the stand — the defense did not put up any witnesses. One of Kane’s attorneys argued charges should be dismissed, saying prosecution witnesses contradict each other, pointing out one commonwealth witness was accusing another commonwealth witness of framing him.

State lawmakers are beginning the discussion on how to approach modernizing Pennsylvania elections. Wes Parry, assistant director of elections for Washington County, told the House State Government Committee that most Pennsylvania counties converted to some kind of computer-based voting system by 2006. Parry, however, says modernizing technology alone is not enough. He points to the state’s 79 year-old election laws. The committee chairman says lawmakers will have more discussions about the issue in the near future.
