About four years ago, Kathleen Kane became the first woman elected as Pennsylvania's Attorney General. Today, her trial begins on charges she leaked privileged grand jury information and then lied under oath to cover it up. Prosecutors say Kane was so angered after a leak to reporters that she had shut down an investigation, that in 2014, she orchestrated a leak of her own, sending secret information from another grand jury to a newspaper reporter. Kane is also charged with perjury accused of lying under oath about the leak, saying she didn't know she was forbidden to reveal grand jury information, despite a notarized oath she had signed when she took office.

The son of a Kansas state lawmaker died Sunday on a water slide that is billed as the world’s largest, according to officials and the boy's family. Authorities did not immediately identify the child who died at Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Kansas, but state Rep. Scott Schwab and his wife released a statement saying it was their son Caleb Thomas Schwab. Schlitterbahn spokeswoman Winter Prosapio said the child died on one of the park’s main attractions, Verruckt, a 168-foot-tall water slide that has 264 stairs leading to the top. The slide’s name means "insane" in German. Officials haven’t provided specific details about what led to Caleb’s death.

‘Suicide Squad’, starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie, earned an estimated $135-million on its weekend debut for a runaway first-place finish that represents the biggest August opening of all time. In the runner-up spot was last weekend’s leader, another action thriller, the sequel, ‘Jason Bourne,’ starring Matt Damon. It took in another $27-million. Rounding out the top five were three holdovers — ‘Bad Moms’ with $14-million, ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ with $12-million, and ‘Star Trek Beyond’ with $10-million. And sixth was the weekend’s other new mainstream release – the comedy-fantasy, ‘Nine Lives,’ with Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner – earning under $7-million.
