NJ Transportation Projects Halted, Cosby Court Date Today, PA State Budget

Hundreds of transportation projects across New Jersey will come to a halt Friday night for at least a week as the state looks for money to pay for the work. The state Department of Transportation and New Jersey Transit released lists of projects Wednesday that will be suspended at 11:59 p.m. Friday. They will remain suspended at least seven days. An executive order signed last Thursday by Republican Gov. Chris Christie called for the suspension. Projects paid for by federal funds and those deemed "absolutely essential" can continue.

Bill Cosby will be back in a Montgomery County courtroom Thursday afternoon for another pretrial hearing, as the 78-year-old comedian battles charges he drugged and raped a woman at his Cheltenham mansion twelve years ago. Cosby’s attorneys argue the entertainer’s due-process rights were violated when he was unable to confront his accuser, Andrea Constand, at his preliminary hearing in May. They contend he should be given a new hearing and Constand should be forced to take the stand. Cosby is charged with giving Constand pills at his Cheltenham mansion in 2004, and then molesting her while she was incapacitated.

Talks continue in an effort to bring Pennsylvania’s state budget process to a close. A week after the legislature passed a budget bill, it still sits on Governor Tom Wolf’s desk, unsigned for lack of a revenue plan to pay for it. Governor Wolf has until Monday night to decide what to do with the budget bill. On Wednesday, the legislative chambers were empty as discussions continued between leaders and the administration on how to fund the spending plan.
