Philadelphia Weather Wettest Ever

The National Weather Service announced that 2011 is the wettest year in Philadelphia weather history.

The precipitation total - including all that melted snow and ice - has reached 56.66 inches at Philadelphia International Airport.

The annual average is 41.3 inches. This year's accumulation had blown past that mark by the time Irene's downpours ended Aug. 28.
It’s the wettest 10-year period in 138 years of record-keeping, edging out the 1970s.

Some say it could be related to general worldwide warming. The atmosphere gets warmer and it holds more water vapor.

In the Philadelphia region, this has been a banner year for storms, stream flooding, and power outages. Still time for snow in 2011, and the wintertime mood is soundtracking right now on iradiophilly.com. Check out Mistletoe for continuous Christmas favorites.
