Schuylkill River Trail Stabbing, Alex Scott Telethon, Masterman Schools Running

Police say a woman was stabbed once in the forehead Thursday on the Schuylkill River Trail in Center City. This happened just after 3 p.m. near Walnut Street. Police say the 24-year-old victim was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition. Authorities say she was treated for a 3-inch laceration on her forehead. No arrests have been made. Police say the victim was walking on the trail with another person when they noticed that the suspect was following them. Officials say that as the victim began to go up the stairwell to Walnut Street, the suspect followed her and said "you don’t know anything," before slashing her forehead.

CBS 3 and The CW Philly's 10th annual Alex Scott Telethon, a 14-hour on-air benefit for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, raised nearly $5 million ($4,986,068) for pediatric cancer research today, a record for the fundraiser which began in 2007. Over its 10 years on-air, the event has raised more than $17million for the cause. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of 4-year-old cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott whose lemonade stands for cancer research launched a national fundraising movement that has only grown since her death in 2004. The fundraiser helps kick off Lemonade Days 2016 (June 10-12) when thousands of volunteers from coast-to-coast will raise money for the Foundation by hosting lemonade stands of their own.

Students and staff at Philadelphia’s Masterman middle and high schools Friday will be running around in circles. But it’s by design. It’s a fundraiser that has Masterman kids and teachers running around the school — circling the block at 17th and Spring Garden — to raise cash for their designated extracurricular activities. The fundraising goal is $25,000. Principal Jessica Brown says without that extra money, activities would have to be cut back.
