Duck Boat NJ Bus Collision, Soda Tax Decision Day, Showboat Job Fair

A New Jersey transit bus and a Duck Boat were involved in an accident on Tuesday around 6:49 p.m. Officials says the bus had passengers on board and the Duck Boat had no passengers. Police say the two vehicles sideswiped each other on the westbound lanes of 676/Vine Street Expressway near 22nd Street. Seven people were on the bus and no one was injured.

Wednesday is a big day for Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and for the soda industry. One of them likely will emerge victorious from a meeting where city council will consider how to fund universal pre-K and improvements to city facilities. There seems to be more support for a soda tax at a lower rate - perhaps a cent and a half - but it's unlikely to be settled until the very last minute, and pressure from soda tax opponents and supporters will stay on till the last minute as well.

At least a thousand people turned out for a six hour job fair Tuesday at the soon-to-reopen Showboat in Atlantic City. The possibility of gainful employment was a powerful lure for all those who heard that Showboat would be reopening, minus the casino, in early July. They're looking to hire about 200 people. Many of those who make the cut will be told to report to work by next Monday.
