Eduard Prades of Spain and Megan Gaurnier of the United States were the men's and women's winners of the 2016 Philadelphia International Cycling Classic. Twenty-eight-year-old Prades finished the 110.7-mile men's event Sunday with an unofficial time of three hours, 57 minutes, 37 seconds. He's the second straight winner of the event from the Caja Rural-Seguros RGAteam. Carlos Barbero was last year's winner. Prades said through an interpreter that winning the race was "an amazing feeling." Travis McCabe of the Holowesko-Citadel team finished second.
Megan Gaurnier of the Boels-Dolmans team won the women’s 73.8-mile race. The 12.3-mile route ran from the city through Manayunk, Roxborough, East Falls, Fairmount Park and Lemon Hill, beginning and ending near the top of the infamous steep “Manayunk Wall.”

Septa’s teaming up with Philabundance for its 8th annual Stop Hunger at Your Station food drive, which starts Monday. The two-week campaign aims to help thousands of people in the Delaware Valley. Donations can be dropped into the red barrels at 43 locations, from Septa train stations to transportation centers. Or you can make a donation to Philabundance online. Details at:septa.org/events

Pennsylvania lawmakers return to the state capitol Monday with a budget deadline looming at the end of the month. A prominent analyst thinks the upcoming Democratic Convention in Philadelphia may increase the chances of avoiding another marathon impasse. The budget for the current fiscal year wasn’t completed until earlier this spring. Franklin and Marshall College political analyst Terry Madonna thinks there’s a different dynamic this year: political conventions, particularly the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia, putting pressure on everyone involved to get it done, or at least have temporary funding in place.
